British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer paid a visit to Poland today, where he also met with his counterpart Donald Tusk.
Donald Tusk was previously President of the European Council and a senior figure in the Brexit-era drama, writes A2 CNN.
Speaking alongside Sir Keir Starmer in Warsaw, Tusk said "we need maximum rapprochement" between the UK and the EU, including on security and defence.
He says he is confident there will be "no political obstacles" to this, which is a departure from the situation under the last UK government.
Tusk says he hopes for a “Breturn” instead of a “Brexit.” He adds that he hopes the UK-Poland defense pact will be ratified “this year” and there will be “concrete” results in the negotiations.
The Polish leader reveals that he and Sir Keir spoke for an hour this afternoon, but could have talked longer.
Sir Keir Starmer, in his comments to the media, says that he and Tusk spoke about issues including the economy, security and migration, writes A2 CNN.
Sir Keir says Belarusian and Russian gangs are "herding migrants" across the border into Poland and the UK will help to "destroy the vile gangs operating across Europe". (A2 Televizion)
