"The house is not left without a homeowner", Kurti: The reckless

The opposition parties' demand and insistence to leave the "house without an owner" are reckless and risk an institutional vacuum. This is what Prime Minister Albin Kurti said a day after the failure of the constitutive session of parliament, as opposition parties demanded that the prime minister and the government cabinet formally resign in order to vote on the report on the verification of their mandates as MPs.

At the government meeting, Kurti said that in the past, prime ministers from other parties have remained in office until the formation of a new government, despite irregularities. But, as he expressed it, the Vetëvendosje Movement, although it has fulfilled its regular mandate, is being asked to leave its offices.

"The constitution of the Assembly yesterday was made impossible because the opposition parties, PDK, LDK, Srpska Lista and AAK did not vote for the verification of their mandates as MPs. Essentially, those who did not accept to formally take the mandate of MPs are asking me to formally not be prime minister. This government cabinet has been in office and effectively resigned since March 23 of this year, when we have fulfilled the regular and full four-year mandate... It is not possible to resign more than that. More than that would be abandoning the institution, it would be an institutional vacuum, political irresponsibility and a risk to national security. It is a request and insistence, to put it mildly, to leave the house without a homeowner", said Kurti.

The acting Prime Minister further added that despite the irresponsible opposition calls for the suspension of the state during the constitutive session, according to him, the state is functioning. Kurti affirmed that they are interested in the institutions of the ninth legislature being formed as soon as possible.

"As the undisputed winners of the February 9, 2025 elections, we are very interested in moving forward towards the formation of the institutions of the ninth legislature, and as soon as possible, immediately. As the incumbent government, we are very attentive and responsible not to allow an institutional vacuum not for a day, not for an hour, but for a single minute. Despite the irresponsible opposition calls yesterday for the suspension of the state, the state is functioning," Kurti said.

According to Kurti, the meeting held this Wednesday is also mandatory, according to the law, because according to him, "the state cannot have a vacuum in governance, the government cannot have a suspension of operations . " (A2 Televizion)
