If you're still using an old phone, it's time to check if you'll soon be without WhatsApp. Starting May 5, the popular messaging app will stop working on some older phone models.
This change comes as part of regular maintenance and security updates, and the goal is to keep WhatsApp reliable, secure, and compatible with the latest versions of operating systems, writes A2.
Although it won't affect a large number of users, some will have to say goodbye to WhatsApp. Or at least to your old phone.
If you're using an iPhone, WhatsApp will no longer work on iOS versions older than 15.1, which means the following models are "out of the game": iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
These phones, introduced more than 11 and 12 years ago, can only be updated to iOS 12.5.7, which is no longer enough for the app to work.
As for Android users, WhatsApp ended support for all devices with Android KitKat and older versions on January 1, 2025, and now the list of specific models that are no longer supported is known:
