A ferry with 105 passengers on board and a crew of nine broke down and ran aground on a rocky island in the Euboean Gulf in Greece on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident reportedly occurred in Nea Stira, as passengers were being urgently disembarked in lifeboats and life jackets, as there was fear and panic about sinking.

Greek media report that all are in good health and are currently boarding private vessels, while an offshore vessel and two Coast Guard patrol boats are operating at the scene, reports A2 CNN.

According to Greek media, the vessel was initially reported to have a small water leak. There are also 9 crew members on board.

"We were not given instructions, no one informed us, we found the life jackets ourselves under the seats. We saw a maneuver from the captain and said: "What are you doing?" Immediately we heard the impact on the rocks. When the moment of evacuation came, the captain said through the loudspeakers: "Get off and get into the boats," a passenger told Greek media.
