Criticism and ironic comments prompted statements by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Christian Mickoski, who said that 350 euros per month is a good income for someone to live comfortably.
According to foreign media, Mickoski made these statements while explaining why the minimum wage in the country will not be increased, writes A2 CNN.
The backlash might have been less if the leader of the Levitsa (Left) party, Dimitar Apasiyev, had not reminded people in a social media post that Mickoski has luxury wristwatches.
"The Prime Minister who wears a watch worth 60 thousand euros declared before the people today: 'There will be no increase in the minimum wage,'" wrote Dimitar Apasiyev.
"You can live well on 350 euros a month," he further wrote, reports A2 CNN.
Mickowski's Hours
The figures are slightly inflated, because based on the information that Mickoski himself provided to the Anti-Corruption Commission, he owns watches with a total value of just over 52 thousand euros.
The data does not specify how many watches the Prime Minister of Skopje owns, nor their manufacturer. From time to time, journalistic research has revealed that he owns two watches of the “IWC Schaffhausen” brand, which are not easily sold in stores in the country. Not only that, but to buy these watches he would have to travel abroad, often getting a “number” on a waiting list.
In his latest statement, Mickoski writes that he purchased the watches in March 2015 and June 2016, when he previously held the position of head of the electricity production company. However, he does not mention how he purchased the watches, unlike the 343-square-meter house, which he states how much he purchased.
Hours that have been identified
In one of his interviews as a trustee, Mickowski wore what appears to be a black "IWC Big Pilot" watch, which can be purchased new for around 13,500 euros.
Two weeks ago, as prime minister, he appeared at a meeting with pensioners with another watch, which experts believe also belongs to the IWC Schaffhausen brand. An unused version of this watch is sold for 6,500 euros on the manufacturer's official website.
These watches can be found at a lower price on the used market, but their value does not decrease by more than 10%-20%. (A2 Televizion)
