Albanian MP writes letter to Aleksandar Vučić

Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, has written a letter to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

Through this letter, he responded to Vučić that he will not participate in the consultation to establish the new government, KosovaPress reports.

"I informed the President that I do not see it reasonable to become part of a false democratic process, just to fulfill the form, while my compatriots remain an extremely discriminated minority in the state system for the last 13 years," wrote Shaip Kamberi, also publishing the full letter, KosovaPress reports.

Full letter:

Mr. President, On behalf of the Electoral List "The Political Battle of Albanians Continues - Shaip Kamberi", which in this composition of the Republican Assembly has one MP as a representative of the Albanian community in Serbia, I inform you that, for the first time in the history of our parliamentary representation, we will not participate in the planned consultations for the formation of the new government.

Over the years, Albanian MPs have participated in consultations, which, in accordance with local legislation, are held by the president of the state, with all parliamentary lists that secure representation mandates in the Republican Parliament.

As in 2012, in 2014, 2016, 2020, 2022 and 2024, the Albanian MP or MPs have presented the legitimate demands of the Albanian population to the presidents of the state, in written form, as a necessary need for the improvement and advancement of the Albanian position in the Republic of Serbia. Since 2014, the demands of the Albanians have mainly been based on the document known as the “Seven-Point Plan”, which was compiled at that time by all Albanian political entities.

The same political platform, considered fair and compiled in accordance with local legislation and European standards, was also approved by the Government of Serbia in 2013.

Since then until today, beyond our political and institutional efforts, no government led by you and the political entity that you have led for a long time has seen fit to cooperate with Albanian representatives to realize our legitimate demands.

a. The passivization of Albanians continues today;

b. The non-recognition of the diplomas of our students, who have completed their studies at the Universities of the Republic of Kosovo, continues to be the main reason for the massive exodus of Albanian youth from the Presheva Valley;

c. The doors of public institutions continue to remain closed to Albanians and their employment in these institutions is still impossible;

d. Hate speech (even though you personally promised to work to prevent it) continues to remain part of the daily communication of high-ranking state representatives with Albanians, while

e. Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa continue to remain the most underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia.

f. Doctors who worked at the Health Center in Presevo during the Covid19 pandemic, despite the Government's instructions that they should be employed on a permanent basis, continue to remain unemployed,

g. Just as specialized Albanian police personnel have also been left unemployed.

h. For years, not a single Albanian police officer has been employed in the local police in Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvegja,

Considering all that I mentioned and convinced of the profound lack of political will in Belgrade for this position of Albanians to be fundamentally improved and for Albanians to be treated as equal citizens of this state, I inform you that we will not participate in the consultations planned for the creation of the new government.

The current political crisis in Serbia requires a completely new approach without pressure on those who think differently, with complete freedom of the media, with unconditional respect for human rights and national minorities.

I remain committed to continuing our political struggle and remain open to talking and cooperating with anyone who, in a serious, sincere and uncomplicated manner, in the spirit of the foundations of the European Union, will be willing to begin with the full realization of our legitimate demands.

Until then, I do not see it reasonable to become part of a false democratic process, just to fulfill a form, while my compatriots remain an extremely discriminated minority in the state system for the last 13 years. (A2 Televizion)
