A serious incident occurred during a football match in the town of Klupci, near Loznica west of Belgrade, where lightning struck the field in the middle of a storm.
The match was taking place between the local team Radnicki from Klupci and Cerit from Petkovica. As a result of the lightning strike, 11 players were injured.
Similar incidents have been reported in other countries. On Saturday, lightning struck a children's soccer practice in the Czech Republic city of Opava. One child was hospitalized in serious condition, while seven other children and an adult suffered minor injuries.
Local authorities are urging sports teams to be extremely cautious during bad weather and to stop any on-field activities as soon as signs of a storm appear. (A2 Televizion)
