Serbia's parliament has been engulfed in chaos and violence. Serbian opposition lawmakers threw smoke grenades and tear gas inside the parliament in a show of opposition to government policies and support for student protesters. The demonstrations, sparked by the collapse of a train station roof that killed 15 people four months ago, have become the biggest threat to the Serbian government.

At the legislative session, after the ruling coalition led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) approved the agenda, some opposition politicians ran from their seats towards the parliament speaker and clashed with security guards. Others threw smoke grenades and tear gas.

Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said two lawmakers were injured, with one, Jasmina Obradovic from the SNS party, suffering a stroke and in critical condition. "Parliament will continue to work and defend Serbia," she told the session.

"We consider that the Government has fallen. You have no right to propose laws while you are in resignation. You should arrest yourself and stop making a circus," said MP from the Party for Freedom and Justice, Marinika Tepic. Several opposition MPs in the hall also held photographs with bloody hands and banners that read: "General strike", "Students have the right" and "Teachers, we are with you". Ministers and MPs from the ruling coalition then began discussing the agenda items, while the opposition interrupted them, making noise and cheering.

Parliament was due to approve a law on Tuesday to increase funding for universities - one of the main demands of students who have been blocking faculties since December. Parliament was also due to vote on the resignation of Prime Minister Miloš Vučević. But other items on the agenda put on the agenda by the ruling coalition have angered the opposition.
