"Donald Trump loves Serbia and will visit it soon, once the new American ambassador is appointed."
This was the message that reached Belgrade through Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who also serves as co-chair of the Serbian parliamentary group in the United States House of Representatives.
President Aleksandar Vučić presented her with the Order of the Serbian Flag, First Class, as stated in the announcement, " for special merits in the development and strengthening of cooperation and international relations between Serbia and the USA ."
Kosovo was not left unmentioned, not by the congresswoman, but only by the Serbian president who tried to put words in Tenney's mouth. Vučić claimed American support for preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity, implying that Kosovo is within its borders, despite the reality that the US has recognized its independence.
"Your continued support in maintaining stability, peace and security in the Western Balkans region is important, as is your contribution to the process of normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina through dialogue, despite all our differences on this important issue for Serbia. For almost two decades, the Republic of Serbia has fought by all diplomatic means to preserve its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and is fully committed to finding a lasting solution to the Kosovo issue, with full respect for the fundamental principles of international law and legally binding resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. We especially thank you for your understanding of the need to respect the rights of Serbs and other non-Albanian populations in Kosovo, as well as for your courageous criticism of Pristina's unilateral actions when these rights were unlawfully violated," said the President of Serbia.
“ I worked for the former Yugoslav consulate in New York, I worked for the sports desk and I followed the Olympics in Sarajevo. I am connected to all the people in the former Yugoslavia. I am trying to practice my Serbian a little bit and I just want to thank you for everything you have done for me. When I was younger, I had friends in Serbia, who of course did not speak English at the time, but it was a big challenge for me to try to speak Serbian ,” said Claudia Tenney.
This visit comes after an incident reported by the media, but not officially confirmed, that Vučić was kicked out of a Republican party event in the US after entering using a false identity. (A2 Televizion)
