Ukraine has launched one of the most daring and successful attacks on Russian air forces since the start of the war. In an operation planned for more than a year and a half, the Ukrainian security service (SBU) struck four Russian air bases, causing major damage to the Russian strategic aviation fleet.

According to the SBU, 41 aircraft were hit, including Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers and an A-50 reconnaissance aircraft. Military expert Justin Bronk described the attack as an “extraordinary success,” which could significantly affect Russia’s ability to carry out large-scale missile strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

The most distant base hit was Belaya in the Irkutsk region, about 4,500 km from the border with Ukraine, writes A2 CNN. Ukraine used drones secretly introduced into Russian territory and placed near the air bases, inside several wooden cabins mounted on trucks. The drones, which were launched from close range with the help of Russian mobile communications, managed to evade Russian air defenses and destroy the targets.

Verified footage shows drones taking off from trucks and attacking air bases, while the trucks themselves then explode to cover their tracks. According to Ukrainian sources, the operation has caused an estimated $7 billion in damage.

This attack not only shocked the Russian military, but also exposed weaknesses in the Russian air defense system and the effectiveness of Ukrainian intelligence and strategic planning. President Zelensky called it a “brilliant operation” that could change the balance of the war. (A2 Televizion)
