Three Chinese warships have been spotted just 150 nautical miles off Australia's east coast, in an unusual show of force from Beijing.
These are ships of the People's Liberation Army (PLA-N), and were seen near Sydney, where two Australian Navy ships followed them to monitor their movements. This is the second time in a week that Chinese ships have been spotted near the Australian coast, writes A2 CNN.
The ships being monitored include a Jiangkai-class frigate, a Renhai warship and a Fuchi supply ship. However, the ships' actions are not in violation of international law.
Security experts advise that this is a message from China about its naval warfare capacity, warning that Australia needs to invest more in strengthening its navy. (A2 Televizion)
