A dangerous escape attempt was prevented by Greek authorities at the notorious Koridhalos prison, where members of the Turkish mafia were suspected of being involved.

Reliable information reached the Anti-Extortion Section, according to which, in the "ST" Section of the prison, a firearm was hidden that would be used for an organized escape, including the taking of prison officers hostage.

After obtaining this information, an operation was carried out to find the weapon and prevent the planned escape. The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, April 5, 2025, by the Greek police in cooperation with special units of the Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime.

During the search, in a common area inside the cell, a "Glock" type pistol and a magazine with 15 rounds were found hidden inside an electrical device.

In addition to the gun, authorities also found a small amount of tranquilizer (0.8 grams), a pack of cigarettes containing it, a mobile phone with a SIM card, charger, and headphones.

As part of the investigation, 20 prisoners were arrested for violating weapons, narcotics, and public order laws. They face various charges of involvement in planning an escape and inciting the commission of criminal offenses.

The seized weapon will be sent for forensic examination, while the criminal file will be passed on to the relevant authorities for further proceedings. Greek police continue their investigations to discover whether a wider international criminal network is behind this plan. (A2 Televizion)
