Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that if Hamas does not return the Israeli hostages by noon on Saturday, the ceasefire will end and the Israeli military will return to fighting until Hamas is defeated.
In his harsh response, Netanyahu also supported US President Donald Trump's stance on his recent approach to Gaza. The Israeli government also had a similar reaction regarding Hamas and the release of the hostages.
"I just concluded an in-depth four-hour discussion in the political security cabinet. We all expressed our outrage at the shocking situation of our three hostages who were released last Saturday. We all also welcomed President Trump's request for the release of our hostages by Saturday noon, and we all also welcomed the president's revolutionary vision for the future of Gaza. In light of Hamas' announcement of its decision to violate the agreement and not release our hostages, last night I ordered the army to gather forces in and around the Gaza Strip. This operation is being carried out at this time. It will end in the very near future. The decision that I unanimously approved in the cabinet is this; If Hamas does not return our hostages by Saturday noon - the ceasefire will end and the army will return to intense fighting until Hamas is finally defeated," said
Benjamin Netanyahu.
Hamas's reaction was also immediate, calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to respect the Gaza ceasefire agreement "to the letter" if it wants to release its hostages.
"Netanyahu must implement the agreement word for word. This will ensure that everything goes smoothly and without delays and will lead to the release of prisoners on both sides," a Hamas representative said.
Trump has angered Palestinians and Arab leaders and reversed decades of US policy that endorsed a possible two-state solution in the region, by trying to impose his vision on Gaza.
He has said that the United States should occupy Gaza and remove its more than 2 million Palestinian residents so that the enclave can be transformed into the "Riviera of the Middle East." (A2 Televizion)
