Authorities in Zambia have arrested two men accused of being "witches" who tried to confuse President Hakaide Hichilema through their rituals.
They are charged under Zambia's Witchcraft Act with "knowledge of witchcraft" and "cruelty to wildlife".
The men were in possession of various animals and birds, including a live chameleon, when they were arrested by the police. They confessed that they were promised more than 70 thousand euros ( 2 million Zambian Kwacha ) to carry out their mission.
Police in Zambia clarified that the two men were hired by Nelson Banda, the younger brother of MP Emmanuel Banda.
As the BBC reports, the MP was allegedly arrested in November in neighboring Zimbabwe on robbery charges, which he denies. Since then he has not been seen in public. He is also accused of escaping from custody in August while awaiting a court appearance.
Zambia is one of many countries in Africa where people believe in witchcraft and live in fear of being misled by sorcerers. (A2 Televizion)
