Ukraine will be equipped with long-range missiles, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Merz also stressed that Putin is playing with time and continues to speak the language of an aggressor, A2 writes.
"Russia is playing with time and continues to speak the language of a war of aggression. We will continue to provide and increase our military support to the Ukrainians. There will be no restrictions and the Ukrainians will be able to defend themselves. We want to enable the Ukrainians to have long-range weapons," Merz said.
In his press conference, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized Russia's massive air strikes in Ukraine. They are a "slap in the face to all those fighting for a ceasefire," not only in Ukraine but also in Europe and the United States, he said.
Merz also said that military support will "continue and expand."
When a journalist asked about the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles, Merz did not give a specific answer. For his part, the Ukrainian President stressed that everyone, including the United States, is waiting for Vladimir Putin's next move.
"We waited for the Russians to announce their agenda and what they wanted. The ceasefire at first and the agenda for the meeting between the leaders. We waited for this before the prisoner exchange. Then, they said there will be an agenda or a memorandum. I don't know what other ideas they will come up with. We didn't get anything until after the prisoner exchange. Our side contacted the Russians. The Defense Minister called the Russian negotiators. They said there will be something, but we haven't received anything. Nobody has received anything. We also asked the United States and they are waiting too. Everyone is waiting," Zelensky declared.
The two leaders also had “intense discussions” about how to end the war through diplomatic means. Kiev is also ready for an unconditional ceasefire. Merz said he knew he was in agreement with European countries. He also hopes for support from the US government, which Merz did not mention in the list of administrations he agrees with.
