Iranian leader Ali Khamenei has spoken for the first time about overthrowing his Syrian ally Bashar al Assad.
According to foreign media, he says the rebellion was the result of a joint US-Israeli plan, without providing evidence, Iranian media reported.
Recall that Iran had helped support the Assad regime with military support since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011.
Its Revolutionary Guard was deployed to Syria to keep its ally in power and to contain Tehran's "Axis of Resistance" — a term that refers to a loose coalition of anti-American and anti-Israel forces, including Hezbollah. , Hamas and Yemen's Houthis.
In an interview with Sky News, Abu Mohammed al Jolani, head of the Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) rebel group, said the "source of our fear" for Syria was from Iranian militias, Hezbollah and the Assad regime.
"Their departure is the solution for Syria," he said, writes A2 CNN.
But Reuters reported that the new leadership of Iran and Syria had opened a direct line of communication to "prevent a hostile trajectory" between the countries.
