US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged Israel to do more to protect the population in Gaza.
In the most direct condemnation of the attacks on civilians, the top US diplomat said scores of Palestinians had died.
The United States has offered unwavering support to Tel Aviv, but Blinken's messages in recent days have signaled a shift in attitude.
" We appreciate the fact that Israel announced a 4-hour pause in fighting in certain areas, as well as the opening of two humanitarian corridors that will allow citizens to move more safely. These steps will save lives and enable greater access to aid for Palestinians in need. But at the same time, more must be done to protect civilians and ensure that humanitarian support reaches them. Many Palestinians have been killed, many have suffered in recent weeks, and we want to do everything possible to prevent further damage. " (A2 Televizion)
