"Career on the line," Mike Waltz loses support in the White House

Mike Waltz's career is on the line. Sources for the Wall Street Journal indicate that President Trump has decided not to fire his national security adviser for the time being following the scandal over the plan to attack Houthi targets in Yemen.

But the damage to Mike Waltz's reputation has put him on shaky ground in the White House, senior US officials said, WSJ quotes.

Despite repeated messages of support from Trump, Waltz has lost influence with the president and the support of top aides within the White House, officials said, just as the administration struggles to broker peace deals and faces the threat of further war in the Middle East.

According to US officials, Waltz's biggest sin was not starting a Signal conversation to coordinate attacks on the Houthis in Yemen, or even posting intelligence provided by Israel on an unclassified network, but the fact that a journalist had penetrated a group chat of high-level officials.

On Wednesday, Trump spoke with Vice President JD Vance, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Chief of Staff Sergio Gore about whether Waltz should be fired.

But the former George W. Bush administration official and U.S. lawmaker from Florida is still walking a minefield. Two U.S. officials also said that Waltz has created and held numerous other sensitive national security conversations on Signal with cabinet members, including specific topics on how to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, as well as military operations. They declined to address whether any classified information was posted in those conversations. (A2 Televizion)
