China is preparing its largest war command center, according to the Financial Times. Satellite images reviewed by US intelligence agencies show a construction site covering an area of about 1,500 hectares, 30 kilometers southwest of Beijing, with deep holes that, according to military experts, will house the Chinese army in the event of any conflict, including a nuclear war.
According to current and former US officials, the military command center that China is preparing will be the largest in the world and at least 10 times larger than the Pentagon.
Construction of the project began in mid-2024, with analysts calling it "Beijing's Military City."
As the Financial Times notes, the project is progressing as the military develops new weapons ahead of the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2027.
US intelligence agencies claim that President Xi Jinping has also ordered the country's military to develop the capability to attack Taiwan by then.
"If confirmed, this new advanced underground command bunker signals Beijing's intent to transform itself not only into a world-class conventional force, but also to gain nuclear warfare capability," said the former head of China analysis for the CIA.
For its part, the Chinese embassy in Washington maintains a deafening silence, contenting itself with the comment "we do not know the details" and adding that China is "committed to the path of peaceful development and a defensive policy."
A former image analyst at the relevant US National Security Agency, who examined the footage, estimated that there were at least 100 cranes in an area of 5 square kilometers, in the area where the "pharaonic" project is being built. (A2 Televizion)
