The Kremlin has echoed statements by US President Donald Trump, who said that Ukraine could one day be Russian. In a statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a significant part of Ukraine wants to be Russian.
"The fact that a significant part of Ukraine wants to become Russia, and has already done so, is a fact," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, referring to Moscow's annexation of four Ukrainian regions in 2022.
"Any phenomenon can occur with a 50-50 probability," Peskov added.
Trump has previously stated that ending the war is one of his priorities in his first months in the White House, but has yet to present specific proposals on how he plans to bring both sides to the negotiating table.
Both Moscow and Kiev have publicly welcomed his focus on ending the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready for direct talks with Trump about a possible deal, while the New York Post reported over the weekend that Trump had already spoken to Putin privately about the issue. (A2 Televizion)
