The rift between Donald Trump and Elon Musk is deepening. The latter has sharply criticized the Republican president's spending and tax bill, describing it as "disgusting." The budget, which includes multi-trillion dollar cuts and more defense spending, allowing the US government to borrow more money, was approved by the House of Representatives last month.
"Shame on those who voted for it," Musk said in a post on the social network X. According to him, the bill will massively increase the budget deficit to 2.5 trillion, and will weigh heavily on the shoulders of American taxpayers. Meanwhile, Trump and his administration have referred to it as 'a big and beautiful bill,' reports A2 CNN.
Asked about Musk's comments, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the president was aware of Musk's position, but that the bill remained big and beautiful, and that Trump would not back down from it, writes A2 CNN.
The tech billionaire abruptly resigned from the administration last week after 129 days of working to reduce the administration's costs with his team known as Doge. The comments mark his first public clash with Trump since leaving office, after he had previously been more lenient, calling the plan a disappointment.
Musk's statements also reflect broader tensions among Republicans regarding the plan, which faces strong opposition from various party exponents. (A2 Televizion)
