"It's not our caliber," Kremlin refuses to talk to US mediator

Russia has excluded Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, from talks on the war in Ukraine. According to international media reports, Russia has informed the United States that the US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, should no longer participate in talks to end the war in Ukraine. Reuters quoted a person from US government circles as confirming such news. "Kellogg is a former US general who is very close to Ukraine. Not our type, not the caliber we are looking for," a senior Russian official is believed to have said against Kellogg.

Kellogg was not personally present at several recent talks, including the meeting between U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia. He also did not attend a high-level meeting with the Russians in Saudi Arabia in February.

Meanwhile, according to Russian media reports, US special envoy Steve Witkoff left Moscow overnight on Thursday. There is still no information about a meeting between the American diplomat and Vladimir Putin announced by the Kremlin for Thursday evening.

Vladimir Putin is likely to no longer accept meetings with Donald Trump's special envoys.

Vladimir Putin has taken a hard line on any deal to stop the fighting in Ukraine, although he said he "supports the idea" after a 30-day US-backed ceasefire.

U.S. and Ukrainian delegations agreed at a meeting in Saudi Arabia this week to discuss a proposal for a temporary 30-day ceasefire on land, sea and air. The two delegations also agreed to begin negotiations "towards a lasting peace that ensures the long-term security of Ukraine." (A2 Televizion)
