A tornado could hit parts of the United Kingdom, experts warn, as southern England faces torrential rain after the driest start to spring in decades.
According to foreign media, Meteorological Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said that "the possibility of seeing a funnel cloud, possibly even a brief tornado in parts of the Southeast" of England on Wednesday cannot be ruled out, with southern areas facing thunder, lightning and hail.
He added that there was a "small North-South split in our weather today," writes A2 CNN.
"The northern parts have had a lot of good, sunny weather, while in the South we've seen wet weather moving in... and there will be further showers as we go through the rest of today," he said, A2 CNN reports.
Wednesday's rainfall comes after the driest start to spring in nearly six decades.
By Friday, the UK had recorded 80.6mm of rain in the spring of 2025, almost 20mm less than the record low for the full season of 100.7mm set in 1852.
