For Russia, Ukraine's refusal to join NATO is a key element in reaching an agreement to end the conflict.
The Kremlin has stated again that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready for talks with US President Donald Trump and that Moscow is waiting for signals about this from Washington.
This is reported by the Tass news agency, citing Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.
"Putin is ready, we are waiting for signals, everyone is ready, so it is difficult to guess that the tea leaves here. As soon as something happens, we will inform you," Peskov said according to the official Moscow news agency.
Peskov further added that the conflict in Ukraine does not depend on oil prices, as the head of the White House stated the day before.
"This conflict is happening because of the threat to the national security of the Russian Federation, because of the threat to Russians living in recognized territories, and because of the reluctance and complete refusal of the Americans and Europeans to listen to Russian concerns," Peskov said.
