Russia has submitted a note of protest to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow, regarding the participation of Japanese forces in a US-led military exercise.
According to foreign media, called Resolute Force Pacific, the exercise saw the US Air Force carry out a rapid and massive deployment of personnel, equipment and aircraft to multiple locations in the Indo-Pacific.
"Russia considers such irresponsible activity, which bears all the signs of preparation for armed conflict, unacceptable," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, A2 CNN reports.
"This poses a potential threat to the security of the Russian Federation and will inevitably trigger appropriate countermeasures," the Foreign Ministry statement further said.
This statement comes days after the Russian Foreign Minister warned the US, South Korea and Japan against forming a security partnership aimed at North Korea.
