UK Defence Secretary to convene members of 'coalition of the willing'

The UK Defense Secretary will convene the next meeting of the so-called coalition of volunteers on Thursday.

According to foreign media, more than 30 countries are expected to contribute to the coalition. Meanwhile, John Healey will host the defense ministers in Brussels together with his French counterpart.

He will then chair the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, a meeting of more than 50 countries that militarily support Ukraine, writes A2 CNN.

"Our coalition of nations, working at pace and willing to stand with Ukraine for the long haul, is a stark contrast to Russia, which stands alone with North Korea for a friend," Healey said, according to A2 CNN.

"As Putin advances a ceasefire, we will continue to increase our military planning, exploring air, naval and ground forces that can support a lasting peace in Ukraine," he added.

The United Kingdom and France are leading the coalition of the willing to ensure security in Ukraine after a peace deal, with a plan for armed forces from a number of European and NATO countries to be deployed in Ukraine, acting as peacekeepers.

Downing Street says it is still in the "planning stages" of how the coalition would work in practice and has so far been unable to answer questions on operational details.

The idea has been rejected by the Trump administration, with US special envoy Steve Witkoff describing it as "simplistic".

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he will not accept NATO troops in Ukraine, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
