The United States will know within weeks whether Russia is serious about peace with Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the end of a two-day meeting with European security allies.
Earlier, European allies accused Moscow of stalling over the Trump administration's call for a ceasefire, A2 writes.
“We’ll know pretty quickly, in a few weeks, not months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not. I hope they are. If this is dragging things out, President Trump is not going to fall into the trap of endless negotiations about negotiations. We’re testing to see if the Russians are interested in peace. Their actions — not their words, their actions — will determine whether they are serious or not, and we intend to find out sooner rather than later,” Rubio said.
Sources told Reuters that the White House has become wary of Putin's intentions in recent days, although Trump continues to publicly signal his belief that Putin wants to end the war.
The same position was taken by US Secretary of State Mark Rutte. At the press conference, Rutte said that the ball regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine is in the Russian court. The NATO chief also said that allies will spend more on defense and many allies have already started to do so. He added that allies had heard from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the United States remained committed to the transatlantic alliance.
Asked about the sweeping new US tariffs announced by President Donald Trump, the military alliance's Secretary General Mark Rutte told reporters that it does not violate NATO treaties. (A2 Televizion)
