For German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the words of American Vice President JD Vance are unacceptable.
In his response during his speech at the Munich Security Conference, Pistorius clearly emphasized that no party is discriminated against or allowed to not participate in the conferences, writes A2 CNN.
"We also fight so that you are against us" - this is how the German army sees itself and also stands for our democracy. This democracy was called into question earlier by the US Vice President for all of Europe. He spoke of the abolition of democracy and, if I understood correctly, compared conditions in parts of Europe to those in authoritarian regimes. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not acceptable. This is not acceptable. And this is not the Europe and not the democracy in which I live and in which I am campaigning.
"This is not the democracy I experience in my parliament. In this democracy, every opinion has a voice. It allows in some parts extremist parties like the AfD (far right) to campaign quite normally. Just like any other party. This is democracy. And that is why I strongly oppose the impression that Vice President Vance has created that minorities are being suppressed or silenced in our democracy. We know not only against whom we are defending our country, but also for what. For democracy, for freedom of expression, for the rule of law and for the dignity of every individual, ladies and gentlemen." (A2 Televizion)
