The US State Department's senior official for European Affairs, Brendan Hanrahan, will begin a visit to Kosovo and two other Balkan countries, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I look forward to strengthening ties between the United States and countries in the region," he said in a post on the X platform.
Other details about the visit have not been disclosed.
Hanrahan met the day before with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, at the State Department office in Washington.
Through a Facebook post, she said that together with the American diplomat they discussed "deepening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States."
"Kosovo is ready to advance cooperation with the US in key areas such as defense, economy, and strategic investments of mutual interest," Osmani's post said.
Regarding the visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hanrahan mentioned Dayton - the agreement that ended the war in Bosnia in 1995, and the significance of the anniversary, which appears to be a reference to Srebrenica.
On July 11, 1995, more than 8,300 Bosniaks were killed by the army of Republika Srpska - the Serb entity of Bosnia.
The Srebrenica massacre has been described as the worst in Europe since World War II and is recognized as genocide.
In May of last year, the United Nations adopted a resolution recognizing July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.
To date, over 6,650 genocide victims have been buried at the Potocari Memorial Center.
More than 1,000 missing people are still being searched for.
Various courts have so far sentenced more than 50 people, to more than 700 years in prison, for genocide and other crimes in Srebrenica.
