India-Pakistan war escalates, Islamabad shoots down 25 drones, reports 31

Pakistan said it had shot down 25 Indian drones in its airspace, while India claims it has neutralized Pakistan's attempts to strike military targets with drones and missiles as fighting between the two nuclear superpowers escalates.

The latest exchanges come a day after India said it had struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan, two weeks after accusing the Muslim state of killing 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir. Islamabad has denied the allegations and vowed to avenge the missile attack, which it called an act of war.

On Wednesday, it said it had shot down five enemy warplanes, but the Indian embassy in Beijing denied the claims. On Thursday, Pakistani military spokesman Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan had shot down 25 Israeli-made drones from India, in several locations including the two major cities of Karachi and Lahore.

A drone was reportedly shot down over Rawalpindi, home to the fortified headquarters of the Pakistani army. Meanwhile, a drone hit a target near Lahore, injuring four personnel. On the other hand, the Indian Defense Ministry said that after the Pakistani army failed to strike a series of targets in northern and western India, it had hit radars and defense systems in several areas of Pakistan.

Pakistan claims that 31 people have been killed and 57 others injured in Pakistan and its administered Kashmir since Wednesday morning.

While India says at least 16 civilians have been killed by Pakistani shelling on its side of the de facto border. (A2 Televizion)
