World's first half marathon with humanoid robots takes place in Beijing

Beijing is hosting the world's first humanoid robot half-marathon at E-Town, the state-owned high-tech manufacturing hub in the Chinese capital, as a showcase of China's push to lead the global race in cutting-edge technology.

An initiative presented as revolutionary to test the limits of bipedal robots in real conditions.

The challenge is between 21 different teams, which include the names of the main operators in this sector, including Unitree Robotics which is deploying its G1 model, Engineairobot with PM01 and Leju with Kuavo, all committed to covering the distance of 21.1 kilometers.

At 1.8 meters tall and 52 kilograms, the tallest runner is the Tiangong Ultra, developed by the AI Robotics Innovation Center, which has an average speed of 10 kilometers per hour and a maximum running speed of 12 km/h. It can climb hills and stairs and extend its stride on grass, gravel, sand and other uneven terrain, Wei Jiaxin, head of brand and public relations at the Beijing-based research center, was quoted as saying by state media.

The Little Giant of Beijing Polytechnic, on the other hand, is only 75 centimeters tall, but its joints are equipped with 180-degree articulated motors and its feet have rubber soles to handle rough surfaces.
