The German Embassy in Kosovo said that it has no information about any military escalation of the situation between Kosovo and Serbia.
She made the comments in response to a question from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty about whether she was aware of any such threats that had recently existed.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said last week that US President Donald Trump has prevented the possibility of a possible escalation of the situation from Serbia to Kosovo, emphasizing that these are "very, very late developments."
Her statement prompted a response from Trump's special envoy for missions, Richard Grenell, who accused her of manipulating the president's words.
“Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for peace and economic normalization between Kosovo and Serbia in 2019 and 2020, through the Washington Agreement. Osmani was not part of that agreement. The claim that something new has happened is absurd,” Grenell wrote in X.
Osman's statements were also rejected by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty contacted the White House for additional clarification, but did not receive a response.
What did Trump say?
US President Donald Trump wrote on the Social Truth network on June 15 that during his first presidential term, Kosovo and Serbia were "heading towards a serious conflict" and that war was on the verge of breaking out, but that he stopped it.
Then, at a White House press conference on June 29, he said that, in recent months, the US has stopped or prevented conflicts between several parties, including Serbia and Kosovo.
"Serbia, you know, was preparing for war, with a group that I won't even mention, because it didn't happen," Trump said, adding that the threat to suspend trade had worked to prevent it.
Then, on July 9, he repeated: "I have managed to resolve many situations, like the one with India and Pakistan, Kosovo and Serbia. I said: will you fight? We will not trade. And, it seems, that has been quite successful."
Trump also mentioned the case of Kosovo and Serbia during a meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte on July 14 at the White House.
Osmani's team announced that the president will hold a press conference, but did not elaborate further.
