Companies operating in the energy sector in Kosovo have made requests for a 35% increase in energy prices. KOSTT, KEDS and KESCO have sent it to the Energy Regulatory Office. This was confirmed to A2 CNN by the Chairman of the Board of ERO, Ymer Fejzullahu, in a written response:

"ERO will publish a report for public consultation, where it will present its analysis and recommendations. This report will be available for public consultation for a two-week period. After reviewing the comments received during the consultation period, ERO will propose a final decision, which will be sent for approval to the ERO Board. Until the completion of this process and the publication of the consultative report, ERO cannot declare itself regarding the possibility of increasing or decreasing electricity tariffs for 2025," said Ymer Fejzullahu, Chairman of the ERO Board, writes A2 CNN.

The President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Lulzim Rafuna, came out in defense of consumers, raising concerns about the extremely negative impact on citizens and businesses.

"With this price increase, local producers will be challenged by the competition of the same products imported from other countries," said Lulzim Rafuna, president of the Kosovo Chamber of Economy.

As for the government's silence on such a request, Rafuna says: "With this price increase, local producers will be challenged, and recommends to the government that based on the expertise done by the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, it turns out that there is no reason for the price of energy to increase with the beginning of Spring."

Analyst Lavdrim Hamiti raises concerns about the chain effect that the increase in the price of electricity may have.

"The trend towards increasing the price of electricity has a fundamental cost in increasing inflation and the price of bread," said analyst Lavdrim Hamiti.

Due to the energy crisis in 2022 and the increase in the price of imported electricity, ERO had reinstated the block tariff and made energy more expensive. The increase in energy prices had mainly affected those who consumed more than 800 kilowatts. In 2023, the price of electricity had increased again, as ERO had decided that electricity tariffs would be higher by 15%. Whereas, in 2024, according to the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office, businesses had a 3% reduction in electricity tariffs until the approval of new tariffs. (A2 Televizion)
