Rarely, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, spoke today about the trial of the four former leaders of the KLA in The Hague, as the developments from the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo have been rapid in the last day with a new indictment brought against the former President Hashim Thaçi for obstruction of justice.
During a discussion held in Pristina with the students of the American University in Kosovo, Kurti stated that the former leaders of the KLA are being held unjustly in The Hague.
He even underlined that their defense should be shared and not that everyone had a personal lawyer, as has happened.
" I tried, when this process started, I tried to bring the entire defense council together, because I believe that the defense for Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniq and Rexhep Selim should have been united. They should have had one defense, not four, not that each of them have their own ", said Kurti.
Kurti further explained in detail that the difference would be with a joint defensive team. He explained that in the current conditions, the lawyer of each of the 4 former heads of the KLA wants to release his client, so this way of defending can lead them to the point of blaming each other.
" Don't get me wrong, the problem with lawyers is that they all want their client to go free, they don't care what happens to the others - so, in a way, by having each of them imprisoned, the KLA leaders , the defense corps created this opportunity for someone to play with their defense ," Kurt further stated.
However, according to Kurti, the protection of the leaders of the KLA is lame elsewhere, as it should have been more of a political protection than a legal one.
" It's a bit of a long story how we got here, but I really believe that the defense should have been with our people, and I don't think it should have been as much legal protection, but it should have was much more political protection ", he emphasized. (A2 Televizion)
