Five cases of tuberculosis have been hospitalized and are being treated at the Pulmonology Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK). 241 patients sought treatment for this disease last year. This marks an increase in the number of affected people compared to 2023. Although there are no official statistics, the Pulmonology Clinic at UCCK says that around 600 patients throughout Kosovo have been registered with tuberculosis.
The Director of Pulmonology, Musa Hoxha, in an interview with KosovaPress, says that the rate of infections is around 30 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Kosovo.
Hoxha says that, compared to neighboring countries, the frequency of tuberculosis cases is much higher in Kosovo.
He emphasizes that unlike in previous years, tuberculosis is "stationed" more often in middle-aged and older people.
In addition, in an interview with KosovaPress, the director of Pulmonology, Musa Hoxha, indicates that the number of requests for hospitalization is greater than the capacity of this clinic.
Among other things, pulmonologist Hoxha emphasizes the need to increase the number of nurses. Regarding essential medicines, Hoxha states that they are well supplied.
