The Director of the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), Armela Krasniqi, revealed on the 'Dita Jonë' show on A2 CNN that they have submitted for public consultation a legal amendment to combat online piracy.
Krasniqi said that this draft law aims to impose on internet companies in our country that, if any leakage of material without broadcasting rights is detected, they must close the relevant IP within 30 minutes.
While saying that he expects this legal initiative to be voted on in the Assembly and become law, Krasniqi added that online piracy in Albania occurs mainly during football championships.
"Who is pirating? If we had the names, we would have sent them to law enforcement agencies. There is piracy from within the country and from abroad. There is piracy that is not part of the jurisdiction of our institution. Because our jurisdiction is only within the territory of the Republic of Albania. We notice a piracy phenomenon that appears mainly during championships and matches.
Piracy is a global phenomenon that our counterparts across Europe are facing. The strongest legal criteria have been established and we have issued a legal amendment for public consultation which we intend to pass with a legal package which will go very soon to the Albanian Parliament. The process has now been public and everyone is informed.
We have also had discussions. The change is simple. So the main source of the internet, namely 'X' company, is notified by the institution that is in our network, that a material without broadcasting rights is being streamed, it has the right for 30 minutes to close the relevant IP for the specific individual. IPs are within Albania and the internet is developed within Albania.
"So the 3-4 main internet companies in our country should have these instruments in order to make it possible to stop this piracy within 30 minutes. But this must go to the Parliament and then become law," Krasniqi said, among other things. (A2 Televizion)
