Illegal work still widespread, inspectorate found 2,600 undeclared employees in
Undeclared work spread even more last year. After inspections of almost 10,000 businesses and institutions last year, the State Inspectorate of Labor and Social Services found 2,600 undeclared employees. Compared to 2023, informality in the labor market has expanded by 32.3 percent, while compared to 2022, it has increased by 46 percent.

"The issue of informality in the wage market is not only related to their non-declaration, but also to the lack of wage categorization. Today, businesses lack a wage hierarchy," says Erald Pashaj.

The crisis of the last two years in particular seems to have turned everyone's attention to the workforce, but not to their wages. Nearly 200 thousand employees or 18.2 percent of the total receive a gross minimum wage of 40 thousand lekë. Compared to 2023, the number of employees with a minimum wage decreased slightly.

"It's not that simple and it can't be achieved with just word of mouth. The phenomenon of "gray" wages will be present for a long time," adds Pashaj.

Trade, which includes the bars, restaurants, hotels and other services sectors, had the highest number of informal workers. The list is followed by construction and manufacturing, which includes tailoring.

"Of course, this phenomenon is detrimental to the state budget. The phenomenon of "gray" salaries will be present for a long time."

Data from the State Inspectorate of Labor and Social Services show that during the controls carried out last year, 93 foreigners were found without work permits, up from 27 during 2023. (A2 Televizion)
