The government proposes another postponement of the deadline of the law on strategic investments until 2026. The deadline that expires on December 31 of this year, the socialists propose to postpone it for another two years, with the argument that there are still many requests for major investments in strategic sectors of the country and not only.
Less than three weeks before the end of the deadline, December 31, 2024, the government wants to give another chance to businesses that want to get the status of "strategic investor". An initiative of the socialist deputy, Pranvera Resulaj, filed in the parliament aims to postpone the deadline for the law of strategic investments to December 31, 2026.
"Given that the interest of the subjects is still very high for this legal package, the flow and stock of foreign investments in the country are at the highest figures compared to the last 10 years and with the aim of avoiding the creation of this legal gap as and the consequences that can be created by it, it is intended to extend the deadline for submitting requests until December 31, 2026."
Another proposal of MP Resulaj is the granting of strategic investor status to those businesses that propose investment projects in sectors that are not designated as strategic in the law.
"Strategic investor" status also benefits investors or investment projects, for which, despite not being planned to be realized in one of the sectors defined in point 1, of this article, it is foreseen that the total value of the investment capital of the project will be equal to or greater than 50 million euros and after receiving the prior approval of the line ministry."
This is the second legal initiative within this year for the extension of the term of this law that was approved for the first time in 2015, since in January of this year it was the deputy Eduard Shalsi who asked for a term until 2027, but the socialists themselves came down to the end of this year.
