Journalist Basir Çollaku says that the Special Prosecutor's Office has twice requested the Court to approve a security measure for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. But, according to him, in both cases the request was not approved.
"The Special Prosecutor's Office sent a request to the Court for a security measure for Mr. Veliaj almost a month ago. It was the second time they sent a request. The first time, I don't know what phone call drove him away. And the second time a decision had not yet been made, they withdrew", said Çollaku, invited to "Off the Record" with Andrea Danglili on A2 CNN.
"So these requests are there, they are documented. What happens there in the corridors, political, diplomatic, that remains to be told on the road. But that there is a record of a criminal proceeding against that gentleman, in that structure, there is. And it is not undone".
The mayor was interrogated on Thursday by SPAK prosecutors, where he remained there for more than 5 hours. He was previously interrogated for almost 8 hours in April.
In a reaction to A2 CNN on Friday, the Special Prosecutor's Office said that it has information on charges for 4 criminal offenses, although it did not mention Mayor Veliaj by name.
The suspicions of SPAK are for the criminal offenses "Passive corruption of high state officials or local elected officials", "Active corruption of high state officials or local elected officials", "Cleaning of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity" and "Refusal for declaration, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public officials, or of any other person who has legal obligation to declare".
Earlier, SPAK carried out controls at Veliaj's house, while the latter was not in Albania, and seized the mobile phone of his wife, Ajola Xoxa. (A2 Televizion)
