The Special Court has ordered the security measure "arrest in prison" for Judicial Police officer Edison Tabaku, arrested for the corruption affair, in which two Traffic Police officers Roven Zeka and Sokol Novaku are suspected of being involved.
Tabaku has denied the accusation, but has not made any statements.
A fatal accident involving a businessman's wife led to the arrest of Officer Tabaku and the officers on duty at the Tirana Traffic Police.
Sources told A2 CNN that a few days ago, Edison Tabaku, a Judicial Police Officer, went to inspect the scene and circumstances of an accident in the capital.
The woman involved in the incident had asked for the case to be closed immediately and in exchange for a sum of money, so that it would not be referred to the prosecutor's office.
The same sources told A2 CNN that Tabak addressed the woman to his two superiors, the head of the traffic police station, Roven Zeka, and the head of the accident police station, Sokol Novak, with whom he had telephone conversations. These included her businessman husband, whom SPAK was already wiretapping for another investigative file.
As a result, in these wiretaps, SPAK discovered that they communicated with each other about offering a sum of money so that the case would be closed in favor of his wife.
The Special Prosecution Office has not yet issued an official statement on the case, leaving both the names and the amount of bribe they offered a mystery.
For some time now, the Special Anti-Corruption Structure has been wiretapping a large number of people for various investigations in the hands of prosecutors. There has been no shortage of cases like the last one, where wiretapped conversations have led to arrests for various matters. (A2 Televizion)
