The Tirana Court confirmed the "prison arrest" security measures for the five Colombian women arrested on Thursday by Operation "Orchid", as part of a prostitution ring in the capital.
In the closed-door hearing, the five Colombian nationals told the court that they had come to Albania through an employment agency for economic reasons, after they had divorced in their country of origin, but they denied being part of any prostitution ring. Although they admitted to being involved in this activity by registering on escort pages on Instagram, on their personal accounts, they stated that they did not know that prostitution was a criminal offense in Albania.
The security measure "prison arrest" remained unchanged for taxi driver Esmerald Sulollari, while for the suspects Anisa Brahaj, a crime officer at Police Station No. 4, and Elona Muraj, the court decided to continue the measure of "house arrest". According to sources within the session, taxi driver Sulollari has contested the accusation, claiming that he has only done his job as a taxi driver, writes A2.
He admitted that he transported the girls from Rinas to Tirana, in exchange for paying the taxi fare. The fact that he only served as a taxi driver was also confirmed by the Colombian suspects in the courtroom. On the other hand, the prosecutor told the court that the 39-year-old Sulollari maintained contact with Gabriela Martinez, the 47-year-old Colombian, who is wanted as the head of this prostitution ring in the capital.
In the codename "Orchid", the State Police executed 8 security measures on Thursday, out of 11 approved by the court on a network recruiting girls from Colombia, bringing them to Tirana and then involving them in prostitution, for fees ranging from 200 to 250 euros for each client.
The Tirana Prosecution Office has prosecuted 44 girls from Latin America as being involved in this scheme. The suspects in this case are accused in various roles of “exploitation of prostitution”, “trafficking in adults”, “prostitution” and “maintaining premises for prostitution”. (A2 Televizion)
