Fier police have launched an investigation after a video went viral on social media showing a lion biting a man, aged around 50, on the head. According to authorities, the incident took place in the village of Zharrëz, where the 52-year-old man, with the initials AH, was keeping the wild animal in his house.
"Regarding a video published on social networks, in which a wild animal (lion) is shown biting a citizen, the specialists for the Investigation of Crimes of the Fier Police Commissariat have carried out the necessary investigative and procedural actions to determine responsibility and clarify the circumstances. At the end of these actions, the citizen who owned the animal was identified, AH, 52 years old, resident of the village of Zharrëz, for whom, after consultation with the prosecutor, proceedings were initiated at large for the criminal offense of "Violation of plant and animal quarantine", as it is suspected that he kept the animal in the apartment, in violation of the rules", the police explain.
It is further explained that citizen AH stated to investigators that he found the animal on the street in Lushnja 6 months ago, when it was small. The 52-year-old claims that he kept the lion cub in his apartment for some time.
He also stated that the animal died a month and a half ago and the video that went viral on social media is claimed to be old.
