The Special Court of Appeal confirmed the life imprisonment sentence of Festim Bexhdili, the former gardener of the complex in Shijak where Jan Prenga's body was taken after the kidnapping and from where it later disappeared. Bexhdili was retried in the Appeals Court pursuant to a decision of the Supreme Court, which returned the case to the second instance, overturning the life sentence previously given to him.
At the conclusion of the retrial, the Appeals Chamber faced two different requests from two prosecutors in the same case. One of the prosecutors requested a sentence of 20 years in prison, claiming that Bexhdili was a bystander in the incident and not part of the criminal group that kidnapped and then disappeared Jan Prenga.
Meanwhile, the other SPAK prosecutor in the process requested that the life sentence be upheld, a request that was accepted by the Appeals panel.
According to SPAK, Festim Bexhdili was in the premises of the “Golden” complex when Jan Prenga’s body was taken there and helped the kidnappers move the body from one vehicle to another. He is also suspected of having helped these people in the disappearance of the body and has knowledge about it, knowledge that he did not share with investigators.
During his statements at the trial, Bexhdili admitted that he had persuaded the people who arrived at the complex's garage to move the body, as well as to have provided them with a pickaxe and shovel, because they were armed.
Two parallel trials are underway in the Special Court for the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga, where in one Altin Hajri is being tried in absentia, while in the other, Dritan Rexhpi and 6 co-defendants. (A2 Televizion)
