On the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Republican Party, Chairman Fatmir Mediu expressed the achievements, but also the challenges with its main ally, the Democratic Party.
Before the May 11 elections, Mediu emphasized that the main pillars of the Republicans are and remain faith in God, the preservation of family values, and private property.
"We made Albania's membership in NATO possible. Here in Tirana, alongside Prime Minister Berisha, President George W. Bush has assessed two important things that we must definitely see as they were and as they should be. The first, he declared, is Albania in NATO; the second, Independent Kosovo. These are historical moments, which, undoubtedly, should make us feel proud, but they should also make us think deeply about how far we are from what we want, what we built and what should be for Albania," said Mr. Mediu.
The main pillars of the speech of the Chairman of the Republican Party were faith in God, private property and the preservation of family values, three points of orientation that have been hit by the current government over the last decade, but which Republicans consider to be the real force that will help Albanian society to rise again. “Parents are not numbers and cannot become such. They are made of flesh and blood, they are our life and soul. It is unacceptable to accept the destruction of the family by transforming them into numbers: parent 1, parent 2, parent 3. This has nothing to do with Albanians, this has nothing to do with us. Therefore, we must firmly preserve our family values and respect for our parents. Faith in God and the family shaped the Albanian nation and I am convinced that they are the force to rise again,” said Mr. Mediu.
In these 34 years of political journey, the Republican Party has remained loyal to the alliance with the Democratic Party, even now, before the challenging elections in May, which are vital for Albania and the Albanian nation.
Opposition leader Sali Berisha defined the 34-year cooperation between Republicans and Democrats as a history of great efforts for freedom, making the impossible possible together. “Albania, despite all the ambitions of empires and neighbors, joined NATO, the most powerful military and political alliance of our time. I have said it and I say it again: Fatmir Mediu has been an extremely important promoter in that process that many, many others considered impossible, unbelievable, not to mention others who awaited it with protests and portraits of Enver Hoxha, a major act in the history of our nation,” said Mr. Berisha.
With less than three months left until the election day, but confident of the opposition's triumph, Mr. Berisha gave a strong message about the main challenge that the PD, PR and the opposition must now face. "Our two parties, what is rare in history, and I don't know of any other case, is to face a second dictatorship, now not based on Marxist-Leninist doctrine, but based on the codes of the mafia, based on the codes of the narco-state. There is nothing in the world that will prevent the opposition from its victory, its iron determination to restore the law, the rule of law, the rights of Albanian citizens, integration and union in the European Union," said the opposition leader.
