In a Facebook post, Basha writes that the Municipality of Tirana, under the leadership of Veliaj and the support of Edi Rama, has turned into a hotbed of corruption and a money laundering machine, serving the interests of a small group, and not the citizens.
The first reaction from the opposition to the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj came from the leader of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, Lulzim Basha.
Basha states in a Facebook post that "under the leadership of Erion Veliaj and with the support of Edi Rama, the Municipality of Tirana turned into a hotbed of corruption and a launderer of dirty money."
The chief democrat also underlines that the capital's municipality was placed at the service of a small handful of people and not of the citizens.
"I applaud SPAK's determination to get to the bottom of corruption cases and encourage the justice institutions to act without hesitation against corruption at high levels, which destroys the well-being of Albanian families. And as the number of close associates of Edi Rama, who today populate the docks of the accused, only grows, it is clear to every Albanian that the prime minister is either incapable of confronting and stopping corruption, which only he has not seen in these years, or is an accomplice of the corrupt in the theft of billions of euros. In both cases, he must leave. The end of impunity is the end of transition in Albania!", writes Basha. (A2 Televizion)
