The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, vowed that if his political force comes to power, he will halve oil taxes in the country. "Our commitment is this, in the territory of the Republic of Albania, oil will never be sold with a plus-minus 10 percent price variation with North Macedonia and Kosovo, countries that do not produce a liter of oil. Kosovo gets its oil mainly from Durrës. So oil from Durrës goes to Pristina, is transported and sold 40 percent cheaper. End this terrible theft on Albanians. The government does not interfere in prices, but the government never tolerates speculation," Berisha said at a press conference, reports A2 CNN.
"However, I guarantee the Albanians that the fiscal burden on oil, which is on the citizens, will see a drastic decrease. It will be halved. Oil is energy and energy is development. Therefore, this load will go down to the level of the lowest loads in the region, so that the oil in Albania will go down to the low levels, because there are countries in the region that have it higher than Macedonia and Kosovo.
These two countries will receive the oil price model. It will be this package of 100 days, part of the package with which we intend to prove to the Albanians that their income is being redistributed in a more honest way and that they will be the main beneficiaries".
According to Berisha, oil in Albania is sold at a much higher price for consumers due to high taxes. "Excise duty: 38 ALL per liter. The turnover tax, which in 2013 was 7 ALL, is today 27 ALL. Carbon tax: 3 ALL. The relicensing tax, which they divide by lot: 7-10 ALL. Marking and scanning: 3 ALL. Control of the pumps: 2 ALL. VAT: 30 ALL. A total of 1,130 ALL," said Berisha.
"In other words, every Albanian who buys a liter of oil pays the government for this liter of oil in the most criminal way 1 euro and 13 cents, which does not happen in any country in the world. Of course, this citizens' tax of 1.1 euros per liter of oil is unique, it does not exist in any country except in Albania, and indisputably this has a strong impact on the price of oil".
