The new parliamentary session has begun with debates between the government and the opposition. Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali urged immigrants to register and vote in this year's elections, reiterating the promise that Albania will be a member of the EU by 2030.
"With the opportunity to vote in elections from the countries where they live, immigrants have more space to participate in the governance of the country. Albania needs not only 1 billion euros but also their votes, which are a major democratic investment that makes us proud of European Albania. EU membership by 2030 is a strategic objective. This is the number 1 priority of this legislature and the next one," said Spiropali.
Gazmend Bardhi from the DP expressed his belief that after the May elections, the SP will be in opposition.
"Your balance in 12 years has been against the public interest and in the interest of a group of people. On behalf of the majority, you should apologize to the citizens for not carrying out a complete electoral reform to address the real problems of the elections. We have failed during these 12 years to reflect any recommendation of the OSCE ODIHR. We enter the elections of May 11, 2025 with an unwavering recommendation of the OSCE ODIHR to separate the state from the party. The state and the party have merged into one, ministers, deputy ministers, directors and electoral headquarters of the SP are intimidating honest employees for votes in the SP." (A2 Televizion)
