The Democratic Party, through MP Dhurata Çupi, has demanded the resignation of Socialist lawmaker Klotilda Bushka from the position of chairwoman of the Laws Committee, after her name appeared in the SPAK file that led to the arrest of Erion Veliaj.
She states that Prime Minister Edi Rama has been dragged behind Erion Veliaj's handcuffs and in this way has blown up the government, the Municipality of Tirana and the Parliament of Albania. Çupi emphasizes that the Prime Minister has given the public message that whoever hinders the discovery of corruption has his protection.
"As the Deputy Chair of the Laws Committee, I deeply regret the anti-Tishte stance taken by the Chair of the Laws Committee during the investigation of her political and business friends, Erion Veliaj and Ajola Xoxa. Obstructing the investigation, by helping to destroy the phone as evidence of the Veliaj-Xoxa couple's corruption; Obstructing the investigation by directing witnesses to give false testimony; Obstructing the investigation to learn that Ajola Xoxa's shell company had the home address of the Chair of the Laws Committee; All of these acts are morally, politically and criminally reprehensible," said Çupi.
Çupi says that SPAK should deal with the criminal part of Bushka's case, but the DP, as the opposition, has the obligation to raise its voice "against the misuse of Parliament and the Laws Committee in the Erion Veliaj corruption affair."
"The Laws Commission, the Mandates Council, the Secretariat for Voting Procedures and Ethics, have been misused these years to protect the illegality of Edi Rama through tailor-made laws, tailor-made punishment of the opposition or tailor-made protection of unconstitutional mandates. The Chairperson of the Laws Commission, Klotilda Bushka, must resign! The Laws Commission should not be dragged by the shackles of Erion Veliaj and the powerlessness of Edi Rama to cover up the terrible corruption of the majority and the government he leads", underlines Çupi.
