Influenza and other respiratory viruses are aggravating the epidemiological situation in the country. The beginning of January has increased morbidity in the population, where over 11,000 affected per week are officially reported.
The real numbers of patients sick from Influenza type A and B, from RSV, Covid or other viruses are much higher, but not all go to the family doctor.
According to the bulletin of the Institute of Public Health, currently in this period the most affected are children under 1 year old and those aged 1 to 14 years old.
Unlike adults, respiratory syncytial virus is dominating in pediatric age groups, which has increased visits to health centers and hospitalizations.
However, the curve of infections is on the rise and the peak of morbidity is expected to be reached at the end of January, beginning of February. Referring to the flu bulletin, a more serious situation of respiratory infections is currently reported in the districts.
Gjirokastra leads for the highest number of flu cases in the country, followed by Durrës, Elbasan and Vlora. Even this year, there are a mix of respiratory viruses in circulation, the most dominant being influenza type A and RSV.
Experts do not rule out the presence of the metanpneumovirus, which has been among us almost every winter. (A2 Televizion)
