This Saturday in "Diagnosis" by Freskida Miloti, we discuss kidney diseases and the impact that chronic diseases can have on the damage of kidney function.
Invited to the studio, Marsida Duli, doctor at the nephrology and dialysis service at QSUT, shows that one of the main causes of damage to kidney function is diabetic nephropathy, or kidney disease caused by diabetes mellitus.
"So there are a number of patients who suffer from diabetes and over time, over the years despite the diabetes treatment they receive for the underlying disease, at a certain stage diabetic nephropathy can also appear," explains Duli .
Other causes, in the second place are some diseases caused by arterial hypertension or increased blood pressure values and which are also related to cardiovascular diseases, of the cardiovascular system.
"Diseases that were present before, then they have been complicated until heart failure and then they degrade the function of the kidney".
But how to distinguish the symptoms that cause kidney problems?
"Decreasing the amount of urination is a sign that should concern citizens, or increasing it in larger amounts than normal, the appearance of leg cramps, waking up in the morning with swollen eyes, or fluctuations in arterial pressure, whether in reducing blood pressure or reaching higher numbers than usual, but other signs such as nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting should not be overlooked," says the nephrologist .
Kidney diseases also affect the general health of patients. Nephrology Duli explains that there are a number of signs that accompany the patient throughout the journey.
This includes anemia, which is one of the signs that appears especially in stage 3-4, is damage to the ostoarticular system as a result of the body's calcium and phosphorus metabolism changed as a result of the installation of chronic renal disease.
At the same time, a decrease in the immunity of these patients, that is, all patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases have a decrease in immunity compared to the rest of the population and are therefore more predisposed to have infections. (A2 Televizion)
